The Ministry of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities has taken steps to carry out modernization activities of the 18 Multi-storied Housing Schemes of the National Housing Development Authority under the “Nagamu Purawara - 2014”, at a cost of Rs.620 million. Under Phase II of the "Nagamu Purawara-2014" programme, the following 18 schemes will be renovated and the contract will be awarded to the State Engineering Corporation: * Himbutu Uyana Housing Scheme, Mulleriyawa; * Simondale Housing Scheme, Piliyandala; * Elapitiwala Housing Scheme, Ragama; * Chitra Lane Housing Scheme, Narahenpita, Colombo 05; * Maligawatta Railway Employees’ Housing Scheme, Colombo 10; * Dias Place Housing Scheme, Pettah, Colombo 12; * Kammalwatta Housing Scheme, Maradana, Colombo 10; * Mattegoda Housing Scheme, Kottawa; * Pamankada Housing Scheme, Kirulapone, Colombo 05; * Torrington Low Income Earners Housing Scheme, Narahenpita, Colombo 07; * Manning Town, Matha Road Housing Scheme, Narahenpita, Colon2bo 05; * Gothami Road Housing Scheme, Borella, Colombo 08; * Albion Street Housing Scheme (Bogahawatta Flats); * Siddharthapura Housing Scheme, Kirulapana, Colombo 06; * Piyarsaibu Housing Scheme, Authkade, Colombo 12; * Ratmalana Electorate 20 Houses, Ratmalana; * Nawaloka Flats K & J Aluthkade, Colotnbo 12; and * Baseline Road Housing Scheme, Dematagoda. The National Housing Development Authority has received provisions amounting to Rs 1878 million (including funds for continuing projects) from the General Treasury for modernization of multi-storied housing schemes and infrastructure facilities under "Nagamu Purawara- 2014" programme. The Urban Settlement Development Authority expects to carry out modernizing activities in 40 housing schemes using these provisions.(ST/KH)
