Govt. suspends foreign vessels fishing under Sri Lankan Flag
December 31, 2014The government has decided to suspend fishing activities carried out by foreign vessels in International Waters under the Sri Lankan National Flag, with immediate effect. The main objective of this decision was to uplift the livelihoods of the fisher folk and thereby to lay a firm foundation to their living standards, said Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry spokesman Narendra Sri Rajapaksa.

December 30, 2014The government through it’s program to enable fishermen to procure a reasonable income for their harvest has taken steps to ensure a certified price, through which the CFC will purchase a kilo of Tuna from the fishermen at a certified price of Rs.700/-.
AirAsia plane wreckage found, bodies being recovered
December 30, 2014Over 40 bodies have been recovered from the missing AirAsia flight, the Indonesian Navy said. Objects resembling parts of the plane, as well as what was thought to be the plane’s outline underwater, were seen in the search area.
