    The booming Sri Lanka Tourism industry created history by achieving year 2014 arrivals target of 1.5 million tourists on Sunday (Dec.28)  by welcoming the German couple Torrens Jaime and Mrs.Ciupika Hedwig who arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport via UL558 as the 1.5 millionth tourists to Sri Lanka in year 2014.

    A special ‘Disaster and Relief Centre’ managed by the Army has been established in Minneriya in the Forward Maintenance Area Headquarters (FMA) - East with the intention of coordinating and providing immediate assistance and relief for East - based civilians affected by floods and continuing rains, which is operational from December 27 on the instructions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake.
    Around 20,000 tri forces personnel are engaged in providing relief measures to persons who were evacuated to 409 welfare centres, the Director, Media Centre of Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya said.

    Accomplishing one of the ultimate aims to facilitate the children of veteran war heroes for a fruitful education and future, in another welfare initiative the Volunteer Force of the Sri Lanka Army handed over a number of financial donations related to their education at a function held at the "Nelum Pokuna" Mahinda Rajapaksa Theater, recently.
