Full-scale probe by proper Government Authority warranted

    May 20, 2015

The report of the three-member committee that investigated into the controversial bond issue of the Central Bank, was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday (19) by the Leader of the House and Minister Lakshman Kiriella.

The Committee has observed that a full-scale investigation by a proper Government Authority is warranted on the unusual bidding pattern of Perpetual Treasuries and securing 50 percent of the accepted bids.

The report further stated that the Committee is not empowered to make any assumption with regard to the aforesaid due to the limited scope of the ToR.

However, in the interest of the public since the said transaction involves public funds and fiscal regulations of the government, the Committee observes that a full-scale investigation by a proper Government Authority is warranted.

The committee appointed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was chaired by Attorney-at-Law Gamini Pitipana and comprised attorneys-at-law Mahesh Kalugampitiya and Chandimal Mendis.
