The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation in Sri Lanka with the aim of strengthening the farming community in the country financially and mentally in order to uplift the agriculture sector is in the process of formulating a National Agriculture Policy. The MInistry would also pay attention to seasonal cultivations, fertilizer issue and using of technologically advanced systems to gain high yields.
Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Duminda Dissanayake pointed out that all these years what happened was that the officials provided an ad hoc solution when the farmers faced with an issue. Once a government changes these solutions too were discontinued due to lack of proper policies. Therefore the Minister emphasised that the country needs a proper policy that would continue even after change of governments.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
