Polling for the Puthukudiyiruppu and Maritimepattu Local Government poll in Mullaitivu is scheduled to be held on Saturday.The Elections Secretariat announced that the campaigning related to the poll will end at midnight today. Election monitors claimed that a peaceful environment prevailed during the pre-election period.

The Elections Commissioner issuing a media release has said that those who will be permitted to enter the polling station on the date of election would be voters, staff of the polling station, Secretaries of the contesting recognized political parties, candidates, polling agents and elelction observers, Police Officers who are on duty at the polling station, other persons authorized by the Returning Officers.

Also actions such as use of mobile phones, taking of photographs, videoing, retaining of fire arms, smoking, use of liquor and other intoxicants as well as entry of either armed or unarmed bodyguards of candidates to the polling station are prohibited in the premises of polling stations, the release further said.

Entire premises where the polling booth is located is considered as the polling station.
