At the invitation of the local election monitor People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), 36 international observers have arrived in Sri Lanka to monitor the forthcoming January 08 Presidential election.
The 36 international monitors, all members of the Asian Elections Monitoring Organization, are well experienced in observing elections around the world, according to the Executive Director of PAFFREL, Rohana Hettiarachchi.
The international observers Monday (29) participated in a special training program conducted by the PAFFREL.
They are scheduled to begin their monitoring duties from Tuesday (30), the PAFFREL said.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
