The Asian Development Bank has agreed to provide 800 million dollars under six phases to the project. The Government will invest 106 million dollars. The Cabinet has granted approval to the proposal of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The project will link selected areas of Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North Central and Wayamba Provinces to the nearest socio-economic centres. It will cover 2,548 kilometers of rural roads and 1,118 kilometers of the national road network.
