Registration of elders’ homes in the western province will be made compulsory, Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said. He said that this decision was taken to improve the living standards of the elders living in those places.
Chief Minister Ranatunga also said that the present laws would be amended and new laws would be introduced.
There are 117 elders’ homes in the Western Province and they would be registered under the Social Services Department.
The state grant for each inmate in the elders' homes for each day would be increased to 25 rupees per day, He added.
