The budget deficit which was 9.9 percent in 2009 has been reduced to five percent this year which is a big achievement. The inflation rate is also under seven percent, he said.

Minister Amunugama pointed out that Budget 2015 has created so much enthusiasm among the public sector with the addition of all allowances except the Cost of Living allowance to their basic salaries. Also the Cost of Living allowance too has been given a Rs. 2,200 increase. He noted that once the allowances are added to the basic salary there would be a increase in their overtime, EPF and pensions etc.
