The 118 unit housing scheme will house the residents of slums that were removed to make way for the Lak Muthu Sewana project. The housing units comes with all basic facilities and are built in keeping with high quality standards. Each stage of the housing project was under the constant scrutiny of Secretary Defence.
Each housing unit consists of living area, two bed rooms, pantry and a balcony with all amenities including proper sanitary facilities at a cost of over Rs. 800 million. In addition, public convenience places, Play grounds, car parking facilities etc too are available.
These projects are under taken by the Urban Development Authority in its mid-term programmes under the inspiration and the drive of the Secretary Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa. At the initial stage decisions were taken to resettle slum dwellers approximately within one kilometre radius enabling them to engage in their usual occupations without hampering their livelihood. Under the development project 70000 housing units will be built and constructions of 15000 are in progress at present.
