    Committee to study OMP interim report

    The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the appointment of a subcommittee headed by Minister of Higher Education and Cultural Affairs Wijayadasa Rajapaksha to study the recommendations made by the Office of Missing Persons (OMP) in their interim report released recently.

    According to the press release issued by the Director General of the Goyernment Information that Ministers Sarath Amunugama, Rauff Hakeem, Vajira Abeygunawardena, Mahinda Amaraweera, Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Palani Digambaran, Thalatha Athukorala, Mano Ganesan, Mahinda Samarasinghe have also been appointed to the ministerial committee.

    The Cabinet has also decided to appoint another committee to assist this main subcommittee. This committee will comprise the Attorney General, Secretaries of the Ministries of Finance and Mass Media, Justice, Public Administration and Law and Order and Foreign Affairs or a representative nominated by them. It has also been recommended that funding to implement the sub-committees proposals be included in the Government Budgets of 2019-2020.

    In their Interim report, the OMP proposed interim relief for the families of the disappeared while also suggesting legal reforms and other relief measures to uplift their lives.
