The construction work of the Monaragala-Buttala Joint Water Supply Scheme in Kumbukkana commenced yesterday at a cost of 5 billion rupees under the patronage of Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa.
Over 50,000 people in the Monaragala, Buttala and Madulla Divisional Secretariat Divisions will benefit with drinking water facilities.
The construction work is to be completed by the year 2016.
Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Jagath Pushpakumara and Sumedha G Jayasena and the former Chief Minister of the Uva Province Sashindra Rajapaksa participated in the event. (ST/KH)
