The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) said close to 6,000 houses have been located within landslide high risk zones. Senior geologist at the Landslide Research and Risk Management Division of the NBRO Laksiri Indratissa said a programme has been launched to relocate the people living in areas where the risk prevails.
Indratissa noted around 1,500 families living within the landslide high risk zones of the Kegalle District are currently being relocated.
Meanwhile, Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management Sisira Kumara said the government has taken steps to construct houses for 10,000 families living within risk zones.
