Deputy minister of Economic Development, Susantha Punchinilame and the Trincomalee District District Secretary Major General (Rtd.)T.V.R.de Silva participated as Guests of Honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Susantha Punchinilame said the Divi Neguma Development Project was launched with the objective of eliminating poverty and raising the living standards of low income families in accordance with Mahinda Chinthana and to make the country self sufficient.
'If we could grow our own crops it will help to increase self employment opportunities and also to prevent foreign exchange going out of the country by stopping import of food items", the Deputy Minister further added.
Moreover, the Minister further emphasised that the government has invested a large sum for this project in order to gain higher benefits with the assistance of the Divi Neguma Development Officers and thereby the officers should assist the entire development project rather than limiting it to individual tasks.
In the Trincomalee District alone thee are 800 families who had entered the dairy industry and in the near future the project's special objective is to increase milk production upto 15 Litres per family, further emphasised the Deputy Minister. (KH/sdf)
