    North has 900 ponds to rear fresh water fish Featured

    Sri Lanka has 119 lagoons all over the country; Most of it is in the North East Region. By Fishing in these lagoons prawns, crabs etc can be caught and processed for exports, Said Northern Province Governor Reginald Cooray.

    In addition there over 900 ponds in the Northern Peninsular that can be used for rearing of fresh water fish. This will open self employment opportunities and will be a solution to the acute unemployment problem in the Northern Peninsular. He said that this is an area for investors to consider.


    A lot of toddy goes waste while Thikkam Distillery has alcohol spirit stored.


    Governor said that the Cashew made in Sri Lanka is the world best. But once the nut is taken the cashew apple goes waste. In countries such as Brazil a drink is made of the Cashew apple. Therefore there is an opportunity for investors to explore the investment opportunities in the Northern Province.
