The administration said health units are still conducting investigations into the mysterious infection spreading among the students within the university.

All faculties except the Faculty of Medicine were temporarily closed on April 26th for one week due to a disease spreading in the hostels. All undergraduates were instructed to vacate the hostels.

According the University Registrar, 12 students were hospitalized due to the mystery disease.

The decision to close the university was taken by the university administration on the advice of the chief medical officer of the university and the Kelaniya Public Health Inspectors' Office as a precautionary measure to contain the disease from spreading.
