During the Maha season approximately 20,000 acres were used to cultivate poison free paddy engaging 5,000 farmers.
Normally, one kilo of organic rice is sold far Rs.200/- per kg but as a promotional measure it will be offered at Rs.150-/- for a short period of time.
Extending the steps towards popularising the use of organic rice, the government will facilitate the farmers to cultivate up to 150,000 acres of poison free paddy by next Yala and Maha seasons.
In addition, one million of gliricidia and wormwood plants will also be planted to use as the organic fertilizer for the cultivation.
These all steps are implementing in parallel to the government’s “Poison Free Country” three-year national program.
