Transshipment from Hambantota sea port to other destinations has gained popularity among exporters in foreign countries,Ports and Shipping Minister Arjuna Ranatunga said after an inspection tour of the sea port. He said that a Chinese investor has expressed his willingness to invest in a ship related project at this sea port and that an agreement will be signed at the earliest.

The Minister noted that from the income earned by the transhipment, loan payments of the sea port can be covered.
