    Media Minister assures a conduce working environment for journalists

    Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Minister Gayantha Karunatilake said that maximum measures would be taken to create a conducive working environment  for professional journalists to do their jobs freely.

    He further said that media institutions should not at any instance publish or broadcast any news item that highlights recism and should always give priority for  media ethics.
     
     
    Minister Karunathileke made these observations at a discussion held with representatives of media organizations at the Parliament premises.
     
     
    He assures to discuss with the Cabinet of Ministers with regard to reducing web registration fees.  The representatives of media organizations pointed out that as per a decision taken by the previous government, Rs.25,000 has to be paid to register a website and requested to bring it down at least to Rs.15,000. The Ministers assured to look into this matter and to discuss it at the Cabinet Meeting.
     
     
    The Minister further added that attention also should be focused on Northern Journalist as in the case of Southern Journalists and said that a two day workshop will be organized for Tamil Journalists in Jaffna in February next year.
     
     
    It was also discussed on journalists who were questioned by the FCID and attention was focused to avoid such recurrences in the future.
     
     
    Deputy Minister Karu Paranavithana, ANCL Editorial Director Saman Wagarachchi and representatives of various media organizations also participated at the occasion.
