    Urgent steps to solve the vocational problems of all librarians Featured

    The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated that immediate steps will be taken to solve the vocational problems of all librarians and that  maintenance of all the libraries in Sri Lanka will be undertaken.

    The Minister expressed this while addressing the national function organized in relation to the National Reading Month, 2015 at National Library and Documentary Services Board, Colombo recently. If the libraries are not modernized, they will be isolated in the future.  A methodology must be created to convert all the libraries into information resource centers that provide continuous updated information, the Minister emphasized at this occasion.

     

    Steps will be taken to provide all the schools with an e--library in the future and another system to digitalize and upload to the internet the information preserved in national archives department and the information contained in the old books so as to facilitate those who need them at divisional level, the Minister further said.

     

    Arrangements will be made to provide new books to school libraries utilizing the money allocated for education from this budget and it is scheduled to select these books intended to be distributed among school libraries by a board of subject related intellectuals. The minister pointed out that the reason for the present degeneration of the society is the deviation from the habit of reading good books.
