Under the influence of the disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, showers or thundershowers will occur at times over Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces. Thundershowers will develop elsewhere after 02.00p.m, the Met Dept. said issuing a severe weather advisory.
Very heavy rain falls (about 150mm) are also expected at some places.
Also there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers, the Dept said.
General public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
