    Expressway stretch reopens

    The stretch between Kockmaduwa and Imaduwa of the Southern Expressway which was closed due to landslide danger, has been reopened.

    Due to landslide danger of Nalawanakanda mountain, the stretch between Kockmaduwa and Imaduwa of Southern Expressway was closed down the fourth of this month. The Road Development Authority said that it was reopened from 7.30 p.m. Octomber 09.

     

    The rocks on top of Nalawanakanda Mountain are being removed using modern technology. A special method has been used to remove water inside the mountain. A CCTV camera system has been fixed to monitor and alert possible passengers by streaming online the danger prone stretch in the nights clearly.

     

    The Road Development Authority requests the motorists to drive only at 40 kilometers per hour on the stretch. Matara District Disaster Management Unit Deputy Director Lieutenant Colonel Priyankara Ubesiriwardena says that a siren system has been fixed to inform of any emergency.
