Special boost for education in next budget

    October 07, 2015

Sri Lanka's education sector is to get a special boost under the next budget introduced by the government.

According to Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, six percent of the GDP will be allocated for education in the next budget, fulfilling a demand they made while in the Opposition in Parliament. He is of the view that book knowledge alone was insufficient for a person to advance in education.

In addition to reading of books, children should be encouraged to involve them in sports, fine arts and other extra curricular activities to nurture their inborn talents, the Minister said.

Therefore, everyone has a major role to play in the development of the country’s education.
