During bilateral discussions with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe Monday (05) at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, the Japanese Foreign Minister praised the new government's efforts to restore the confidence of the international community and commended the government for adopting a non-partisan foreign policy again.
Kishida said Japan will support Sri Lanka to respond to the resolution adopted at the UNHRC through a domestic mechanism to investigate the alleged war crimes during the civil war. Minister Kishida reiterated that Japan as a close friend, will extend whatever assistance to Sri Lanka in its efforts to create a new country through good governance. He added that Japan also will extend aid based on technology and knowledge for Sri Lanka's development. The Japanese Minister further said that Japan will look for the measures being taken by Sri Lanka to create a conducive environment for investments in the government and private sector.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe responding to the Japanese Minister assured that Sri Lanka will fully support Japan in its quest to secure a seat in the United Nations Security Council.
Appreciating the support given by Japan at the United Nations Human Right Council sessions, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe noted that Japan always supported Sri Lanka at international fora..
He apprised Minister Kishida of the measures taken by the government under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena to strengthen good governance, democracy and human rights.
