A Committee to report on School IT education system issues

    October 02, 2015

A committee is to be appointed by the Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam to look into issues and solutions with regard to the school IT education system. The Minister will launch extensive investigations at computer resource centres set up at zonal and provincial level.

Teachers Unions have appealed to the Minister to provide more computer resources to remote schools. About 4,585 schools are now provided with computer facilities.

A majority of 109,000 computers installed in these schools are out of commission at present. Nine well-equipped computer resource centres are established in all nine provinces. But the service provided to schoolchildren are not satisfactory, said a senior official of a Teachers Union in Kurunegala.
