The three-year food protection national program will be inaugurated by President Maithripala Sirisena on October 5 at Iranamadu, Jaffna.
The proposed three year plan will be effective from 2016 to 2018. It is intended to boost the country's agriculture sector towards self-sufficiency.
Although country have achieved political emancipation, we have failed to gain self-sufficiency in essential food items. President Maithripala Sirisena's vision is to stop the import of all essential food varieties that can be grown locally by the end of 2018.
