    National Mosquito Control Week from September 26

    The National Dengue Prevention Unit of the Ministry of Health jointly with the Presidential Task Force on Dengue Prevention will launch a National Mosquito Control Week from September 26 to October 02 on the instructions of Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.

    With the arrival of north-east monsoon rains, the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine has decided to continue implementing dengue eradication programs in order to minimize the number of dengue patients and the Minister Senaratne has instructed the National Dengue Prevention Unit to take necessary action.

    According to the Health Ministry, there is a significant drop in the number of dengue patients in 2018. Compared to last year a 70% decrease in the number of dengue patients has been reported in 2018.The Ministry says the contribution of communities was an important factor for the drop in the number of reported cases it is important to maintain this status for sustainable dengue control.

    The Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine says according to the area survey reports carried out island-wide there are still many locations where mosquitoes can breed. The situation is more pronounced in schools and construction areas.The National Dengue Control Week will be held in 175 health officers divisions in the country.
