A programme aimed at enhancing public knowledge and attitudes towards ensuring road safety by preventing daily road accidents has been launched under the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative.
“Clean Sri Lanka" Initiative Launches School Programme focused on Road Safety and Security Awareness
Under the "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative, a new programme has been launched to enhance public awareness and attitudes toward road safety, with the aim of decreasing daily road accidents.
Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, arrived in Canada on June 24, 2025, to attend the Meeting of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) Board of Governors in Vancouver.
Based on the disclosure from the Sri Lanka Consumer Affairs Authority highlighting the insufficient availability of Keeri Samba rice in the local market, the Food Policy and Security Committee has recommended the importation of 40,000 metric tons of substitute rice for Keeri Samba. Of this, 5,000 metric tons will be imported by government institutions, while the remainder will be brought in by the private sector.
Several discussions were held in recent days between the National Initiative for the Commercialisation of Research and Development (NIRDC), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with the aim of strengthening Sri Lanka’s research, development and innovation sectors.
A meeting between Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake and the Bank of Ceylon (BoC) Employee’s Union was held this morning (24) at the Presidential Secretariat.
The ‘Praja Shakthi’ National Programme, initiated by the current government with the aim of empowering communities and ensuring the equitable distribution of economic benefits, is scheduled to be launched on July 4 at the Temple Trees under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Disanayake.
As part of the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, a development project has been proposed to enhance the area surrounding the Nelumwewa hot springs in Welikanda, Polonnaruwa, with the aim of promoting it as a tourist attraction.
