A high-level delegation from the Asia-Pacific Regional (APR) Scout Committee of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), led by its Chairman, Dr M. Zin Bin Biddin, met with Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (18).
The delegation is visiting Sri Lanka with the objective of further strengthening regional Scout cooperation. During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on the continued development of the Scout Movement in Sri Lanka and programmes aimed at expanding its reach to the grassroots level across the country.
The Asia-Pacific Regional delegation also pledged the full support of the Scout Movement to the Government's "Ratama Ekata" (A Nation United) national programme to eradicate illicit drugs. They assured that international experience and best practices would be shared in support of the initiative and that detailed proposals would be presented in due course.
Attention was also focused on plans to host the Asia-Pacific Scout Jamboree in Sri Lanka in February 2027, including the provision of Government support for the event.
Among those present were Chairman of the Sri Lanka Scout Association Ransiri Perera; Chief Commissioner, Attorney-at-Law Manoj Nanayakkara; Vice Chairman of the WOSM Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Committee Dev Raj Ghimire; Adviser Wendel E. Avisado; Deputy Chief Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Scout Association Kapila Perera; Committee Chairman Kamalnath Jinadasa; International Commissioner Dr Asanka Eriyawa; Assistant Chief Commissioner Prabath Kularatne; together with Regional Directors and Advisers of the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Committee and a number of senior representatives of the Sri Lanka Scout Association.
