Working according to the pledge given, make 2025 a year that fulfills the hopes of the people - PM

The Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, emphasized that 2025 should be a year of fulfilling the hopes of the people by adhering to the pledges made as public servants.

The Prime Minister made this statement during the inauguration of the new year at the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, as well as its Vocational Education Division and the University Grants Commission. During her visit, the Prime Minister toured all units of the ministry premises and addressed the challenges faced by officials in their duties.

In her address, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated:
“Building a country cannot be achieved solely by a government, party, or political authority. It requires the collective effort of all citizens and sectors of society.

As public servants, you bear a unique responsibility to serve the people. The Clean Sri Lanka program is not merely about environmental cleanliness but also about transforming societal attitudes. The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education holds a responsibility in this transformation.

To change the negative perception of public service and establish it as a system that provides solutions to the people’s problems, we must create a positive image of public service. One of the government’s goals is to elevate vocational education to a central role within the education system.

We have entrusted you with the opportunity to work conscientiously. The government will provide maximum support and security to public servants committed to rebuilding this country.

To deliver a quality education system for the nation’s children, an intellectual transformation must be build through education. Most of the institutions that can drive this transformation are placed in the Ministry of Education. The goal is not just to produce graduates for jobs but to cultivate graduates who can serve as intellectual and cultural forces capable of transforming the country.”

State Minister Dr. Madura Seneviratne, Secretary to the Ministry Nalaka Kaluwewa, Additional Secretaries, and a group of institutional heads and officials were present at the event.
