Sri Lanka’s export sector recorded strong growth during the first half of 2026, with total exports surpassing the US$ 9 billion milestone, according to the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB). Combined merchandise and services exports reached an estimated US$ 9.01 billion from January to June 2026, reflecting an 8% year-on-year increase compared to the same period in 2025.
Merchandise exports increased by 8.95% to US$ 7.07 billion, while services exports grew by 4.49% to US$ 1.94 billion, highlighting the continued contribution of both sectors to Sri Lanka’s export earnings and economic recovery. In June alone, total exports reached US$ 1.66 billion, marking a 12.53% increase over the same month last year.
The EDB noted that sectors such as electrical and electronic components, processed food and beverages, seafood, rubber-based products, coconut-based products, and ICT/BPM services recorded strong growth during the period, demonstrating the country's expanding export diversification and competitiveness.
Commenting on the performance, EDB Chairman and CEO Mangala Wijesinghe said the results reflect the resilience of Sri Lankan exporters despite evolving global market conditions. He added that the implementation of the National Export Development Plan (2026–2030) will further strengthen the country's export competitiveness through innovation, market diversification, value addition, and improved trade facilitation.
