The National Transport Commission (NTC) has announced a special integrated transport plan for passengers traveling to their hometowns for the upcoming Sinhala and Hindu New Year.
Implemented under the guidance of the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, the plan will be in effect from April 8 to 20, in coordination with the Railway Department and the NTC. Around 800 additional daily bus services will be operated under inter-provincial private bus services.
Cities such as Matara, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Hatton, Monaragala, Embilipitiya, Welimada, and Galle have been identified as key destinations with high passenger demand during the festive season.
The Railway Department will also deploy special train services in addition to regular trains operating from Colombo Fort. It is estimated that nearly 1.5 million passengers will use bus and railway stations in Colombo and surrounding areas during this period.
To ensure passenger convenience, sanitation facilities, security arrangements, and first aid services have been provided, with additional officers deployed for special duties.
