Review of Ministerial Responsibilities to Achieve the Goals of the “Clean Sri Lanka” Initiative

A discussion on reviewing the responsibilities of respective Ministries in achieving the objectives of the "Clean Sri Lanka" National Initiative was held today (20) on the second floor of the Chartered Building, located opposite the President's House, with the participation of key officials from relevant institutions. 

As a key initiative of the government, the "Clean Sri Lanka" programme has been allocated LKR 5 billion in the budget for this year. The discussion focused on ensuring the effective utilization of these funds by assessing project reports submitted by Ministries and evaluating the financial allocations accordingly. 

Several key areas were extensively discussed, including improving sanitation and infrastructure within schools, enhancing road safety and accident prevention through media engagement, developing guidelines for the tourism industry, improving the professionalism and ethical standards of rental vehicle drivers, formulating a sustainable rehabilitation programme for drug addicts, implementing soil conservation programmes in Upper Mahaweli catchment areas and taking measures to protect environmental systems in selected Mahaweli zones.  These discussions were aimed at launching new initiatives that promote social, environmental, and ethical advancement across the country.  

Senior officials from the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Training, Ministry of Health and Mass Media, Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Industry and Enterprise Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Ministry of Environment,  Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation, Finance Commission, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, Mahaweli Development Authority and Department of Wildlife Conservation participated in the discussion.
