To provide the Rs. 10,000 grant distributed from the President’s Fund to schoolchildren in all districts affected by Cyclone Ditwah, a sum of Rs. 1,925,010,000.00 has been allocated by the President’s Fund. All the relevant allocations have now been forwarded by the respective District Secretaries to the Divisional Secretaries.
In order to ensure the continuity of education for schoolchildren in the affected districts, the Government has taken steps to provide Rs. 25,000 per student. Of this amount, Rs. 15,000 will be provided from the General Treasury and Rs. 10,000 from the President’s Fund.
Accordingly, the Rs. 10,000 grant provided by the President’s Fund for schoolchildren in the districts of Ampara, Hambantota, Polonnaruwa, Monaragala, Mannar and Vavuniya has now been fully disbursed. The relevant financial assistance for schoolchildren in the remaining districts is expected to be provided shortly.
