A special leadership dialogue aimed at strategically and responsibly implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation across Sri Lanka's state university system was held recently at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.
The event was held alongside the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Directors (CVCD) Conference 2026 under the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation in Higher Education.”
Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Eng. Eranga Weeraratne, and Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education, Madhura Seneviratne, attended the event as chief guests.
The primary objective of the session was to actively engage Vice-Chancellors and senior university administrators in the implementation of the National AI Policy Framework approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The dialogue also focused on aligning Sri Lanka's higher education system with the country's national digital transformation agenda while promoting the responsible and strategic adoption of AI technologies across state universities.
The initiative is expected to strengthen leadership and institutional capacity within the university system and support the integration of emerging technologies to enhance teaching, learning, research and university administration.
The conference brought together key stakeholders from the higher education and digital sectors to discuss the opportunities, challenges and future direction of Artificial Intelligence and digital transformation in Sri Lanka's university system.
