Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, Chairman of The Nippon Foundation of Japan, paid a courtesy visit to the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, at the Prime Minister’s Office recently.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya welcomed Mr. Sasakawa and expressed her appreciation for the Government of Japan’s contribution to the Clean Sri Lanka Project. The discussions highlighted various projects funded by The Nippon Foundation, with a particular emphasis on school renovation initiatives and hospital development projects.Both parties also stressed the importance of vocational education development and explored opportunities for future collaboration in this sector.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya reaffirmed the Sri Lankan Government’s commitment to continued cooperation and conveyed her appreciation for the Foundation’s ongoing support.
The meeting was attended by H.E. Akio Isomata, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka; Dr. Takahiro Nanri, President of the Sasakawa Health Foundation; Mr. Ichiro Kabasawa, Executive Director of The Nippon Foundation; and Mr. Shota Nakayasu, Secretary to the Chairman of The Nippon Foundation. The Sri Lankan delegation included Mr. Pradeep Saputhanthri, Secretary to the Prime Minister; Ms. Sagarika Bogahawatta, Additional Secretary (Development); Ms. Ruwanthi Delpitiya, Director General of the East Asia Division; and Mr. Raveen Ubeysekera, Assistant Director of the East Asia Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
