The inaugural session of the Student Parliament of Vidyartha College, Kandy, was held this morning (04) at the Old Parliamentary Chamber of the Presidential Secretariat.
The opportunity was extended to Vidyartha College under the Vision programme series implemented jointly by the Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Education and the Parliament Department of Communication, for schoolchildren.
During the programme, members of the Student Parliament were educated on future leadership, the history and traditions of Parliament, and the role of the present Parliament.
Following the commencement of the inaugural session, the appointment of the Speaker, the swearing-in of the Speaker and the swearing-in of Members of Parliament were carried out.
Certificates were awarded to members of the Student Parliament in recognition of their participation, and a valuable sapling was presented to the school to commemorate the occasion.
Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Dr Rizvie Salih, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage, Presidential Media Adviser and senior journalist Chandana Sooriyabandara, Director General of Public Relations to the President Dharmasiri Gamage, Director (Communications) of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Samantha Mallawarachchi, Director (Legislative Services) of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Jayalath Perera, Director of the Tri-Forces Coordination Unit of the Presidential Secretariat Air Commodore Asiri Gallage, Assistant Director of the Unit Lieutenant Colonel Nadeeka Dangolla, Principal of Vidyartha College M. A. S. Srilal, teachers and several others were present at the event.
