Higher Diplomas awarded to 163 supplementary medical professionals

The convocation to award Higher Diplomas to students who successfully completed training programmes in the Professions Supplementary to Medicine (PSM) and at the paramedical schools attached to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka took place on Wednesday (20) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Colombo, under the patronage of Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.

The awarding of diplomas marked an important milestone in the professional journey of supplementary medical graduates in the country. A total of 163 graduates who completed the Higher Diploma in Cardiography, Higher Diploma in Electronurodiagnostic Technology, Higher Diploma in Occupational Therapy, and Higher Diploma in Radiography received their diplomas this year.

The Ministry of Health conducts these two-year full-time training programmes under the Training Division of its Education, Training and Research (ET&R) Unit. On successful completion, graduates are directly absorbed into the Ministry of Health.

Minister Jayatissa emphasised that the convocation symbolised not only a personal achievement for the graduates but also an important milestone in Sri Lanka’s health sector. He said the graduates would be warmly welcomed into the health service as skilled, honest, dedicated, and compassionate professionals.

He highlighted that Sri Lanka’s health service is a vast and complex system made up of professionals and technical specialists. Its strength, he noted, does not lie in individuals working alone, but in teams with a shared vision and trust, working collectively for public well-being. He expressed confidence that the new diploma holders would serve as a strong team of frontline professionals who will sustain the health system and guide it to meet future challenges.
