Heavy Rain Expected in Several Provinces

A low-pressure area is likely to develop over the southeastern Bay of Bengal today (13), bringing an increase in rainfall across Sri Lanka and the surrounding deep and shallow sea areas over the next few days, the Department of Meteorology has announced.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in most parts of the island.

Heavy rainfall of around 100–150 mm is likely at some locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern Provinces. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is also possible at some locations in other parts of the country.

The public, including fishing and naval communities, is advised to remain attentive to future forecasts and advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology regarding the developing weather system.

The public is also urged to take necessary precautions to minimise the risk of accidents caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may accompany thundershowers.

Misty conditions may prevail at some locations in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva Provinces during the early morning hours.
