The Department for Registration of Persons has announced that its general services will be suspended until further notice due to a sudden breakdown in its computer system.
According to a statement, only one-day services for essential applicants will be provided for issuing National Identity Cards (NICs) at the head office and all provincial offices tomorrow (08). Normal services and front office operations will remain suspended until further notice.
In addition, all other services, including verification of NIC details for government and non-government institutions and translation services into English, will also be unavailable. Relevant institutions have been advised to use alternative arrangements.
The department stated that all services will resume once the system is restored and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the public and other institutions.
