The Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation reports that Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) recorded a 16% growth in overall flight operations during the first six months of 2025, compared to the same period in 2024.
International flights increased by 17%, while domestic operations rose by 10%. The highest surge in international flights was recorded in March, showing a 22% rise compared to March last year. Domestic flights, meanwhile, peaked in June with a significant 38% increase.
The Airport Authority stated that operations are expected to expand further with the start of the upcoming tourist season.
