Five Advanced Mammography Machines to Boost Breast Cancer Detection

The Ministry of Health and Mass Media will provide five advanced mammography machines to major hospitals across Sri Lanka to strengthen the early detection and treatment of breast cancer.

The machines, valued at Rs. 765 million in total, will be installed at the National Hospital Colombo, Karapitiya National Hospital, Kandy National Hospital, Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, and Apeksha Hospital. Funding has been provided through the Health System Enhancement Project (HSEP) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The Ministry will also supply two refurbished mammography machines to the Trincomalee and Nuwara Eliya District General Hospitals.

With these additions, the number of mammography machines in the public health sector will increase from 16 to 23, helping to reduce waiting times and improve access to breast cancer screening services.
