The European Union has increased its disaster relief assistance to Sri Lanka from €1.8 million to €2.35 million, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As part of this enhanced support, a special EU cargo aircraft arrived at Katunayake International Airport this morning (17) carrying relief supplies. The Boeing 747-400 cargo plane transported aid from EU member states Germany and Luxembourg.

The consignment includes disaster relief items worth €0.5 million provided by Germany, as well as humanitarian supplies from Luxembourg, including tents, kitchen equipment, and mattresses.

The aid shipment was officially received at the airport by German Deputy Ambassador to Sri Lanka Sarah Hasselbarth, European Union Ambassador Pierre Tripon, and officials from the Disaster Management Centre.
