Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Meets Sri Lankan IT Professionals in Singapore

Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Eranga Weeraratne, who led a delegation to Asia Tech Singapore met with a group of IT professionals of Sri Lankan origin based in Singapore at a networking event organized by the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore recently.

The event provided a platform for Sri Lankan IT professionals in Singapore to network, exchange ideas, and explore ways to contribute to the growth of the IT industry in Sri Lanka. One of the key outcomes of the event was the announcement of the formation of an Association of IT Professionals of Sri Lankan Origin in Singapore under the patronage of the High Commission. The Association aims to serve as a hub for diaspora engagement, innovation, and partnerships that support Sri Lanka’s IT ecosystem.

In his remarks, Deputy Minister Weeraratne shared insights into Sri Lanka’s digital transformation journey and highlighted the Sri Lankan government's vision to transform the country into a digitally empowered nation. He called upon the Sri Lankan IT professionals in Singapore to support the country’s digital aspirations by contributing their knowledge, expertise, and global networks, particularly encouraging efforts to connect Sri Lankan IT companies.

High Commissioner Senarath Dissanayake, delivering the opening remarks, underscored the strategic importance of the IT sector to Sri Lanka’s economy. He noted that this was the second such engagement held this year with the objective of deepening links between the Sri Lankan diaspora and national development priorities in the IT sector. The High Commissioner emphasized that realizing Sri Lanka’s digital ambitions requires wider collaboration beyond the public sector and hoped that similar forums significantly contribute meaningfully towards Sri Lanka’s digital future.
