COOPFED Signs Agreements to Supply Affordable Local Products Through Cooperative Network

The Sri Lanka Consumer Cooperative Federation (COOPFED) yesterday (1) signed two Memoranda of Understanding with the Lanka Sugar Company and BCC Lanka Company to strengthen local industries and provide quality products to consumers at affordable prices.

Under the agreements, locally produced goods, including 1,000 metric tonnes of brown sugar and 20,000 litres of packaged coconut oil per month, along with other products, will be distributed through a network of 3,500 cooperative stores islandwide.

The initiative aims to reduce the role of middlemen, stabilize market prices, and ensure consumers have access to quality products at fair prices. COOPFED also plans to expand its cooperative retail network from 3,500 to 10,000 outlets by 2029.
