Cabinet Approves Establishment of Digital Transformation Units Across State Institutions

Cabinet approval has been granted for a proposal presented by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake ,  as the Minister of Digital Economy, to establish Digital Transformation Units within state institutions.

Accordingly, Digital Transformation Units will be established across all government institutions to support the implementation of the National Digital Economy Strategy 2025–2030.

The National Digital Economy Strategy 2025–2030 received Cabinet approval at the Cabinet meeting held on October 21, 2025. The need to establish a strong and standardised institutional mechanism within government institutions to effectively implement the strategy was subsequently identified.

The proposed Digital Transformation Units will function as dedicated units responsible for driving and coordinating digital transformation initiatives within state institutions.

A Reference Framework outlining the structure and operational arrangements for establishing and implementing these units has been developed by GovTech Sri Lanka (Private) Limited.
