An advanced MRI machine equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) technology was inaugurated yesterday (09) at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka in Colombo under the patronage of Health and Mass Media Minister Nalinda Jayatissa.
The government has spent over Rs. 450 million to install the machine, marking the first time such an advanced MRI scanner has been introduced to a government hospital in the country.
The new MRI machine has been installed to provide more systematic and efficient diagnostic services, particularly for patients receiving treatment at the Emergency Department and the Neurosurgery Department of the hospital.
Previously, the three MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) machines at the hospital had experienced intermittent breakdowns, causing inconvenience to patients seeking medical services.
After the current government assumed office, Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa and Deputy Health Minister Hansaka Wijemuniya paid close attention to the issue. Following an investigation into the causes of the recurring malfunctions, all three existing MRI scanners at the hospital have now been restored and reconnected to patient care services.
In addition to those three machines, the newly installed advanced MRI scanner is expected to further strengthen diagnostic and treatment services at the hospital.
