The 79th Session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for South-East Asia (RC79) was officially inaugurated today in Dili, Timor-Leste, under the leadership of WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
The regional health session brings together Health Ministers, senior health officials and representatives from member countries of the WHO South-East Asia Region, along with senior officials of the World Health Organization.
A Sri Lankan delegation led by Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, is participating in the session.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Jayatissa, who was elected Chair of the Regional Committee during its 78th Session held in Colombo in 2025, emphasised the importance of people-centred policies and collective action in strengthening health systems across the region.
