CMC to introduce e-Service Online Tax Payment System

    May 07, 2015

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) of Sri Lanka is to extend the e-Service Online Tax Payment System. Five kiosks with facilities for online payment are to be set up within the Colombo Municipal Council limits. This move is expected to enable even taxpayers who do not possess internet facilities to make their tax remittances to the CMC online.

The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) has taken steps to introduce the Online Tax Payment System to the Colombo Municipal Council in 2014. That was the first time an online tax payment system was introduced by any local government authority in Sri Lanka.

Since the introduction of the system in 2014, the total sum of remittances received online up to now by the CMC as tax payment has exceeded Rs. 10 million. Online tax payment received by the CMC in 2015 during the period from January-April exceeds Rs. 4.2 million.

The facility could be availed at www.srilanka.lk or www.cmc.lk. Tax payment to the CMC could also be made through a mobile phone.

There are reportedly nearly 600,000 permanent residents within the CMC limits and the total revenue per year from rates payment alone exceeds Rs. 3.3 billion.
